For the Enjoyment of Tea and Living: Take Time, Don’t Rush.
By Hooi Yoke Lien
Tea drinking requires total involvement of our senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch and feel. The combination of masterful brewing technique, rare tea leaves and exquisite tea equipage not only enriches the flavor of tea, but also opens up a whole world of refinement in life.
When it comes to the place for tea or the tea setting, size is not a key issue. The tea ware though, calls for our attention. Quality and craftsmanship are as important as practicality. The difference is in the details; and details bring out the flavour of our life enriched by tea drinking.
A leisurely sip or a life of refinement requires sensitivity towards other people and the objects around us. When we put our experience, feelings and idea of beauty together, it will not be too difficult to come up with a beloved tea set and an aesthetic tea setting.
Perhaps, what applies equally well to tea drinking and living is this: take time, don’t rush.
